In 1889 Maria Viacava and her husband Captain Crovari founded the hotel and restaurant Delfino. Its name was a tribute to the ancient name of Portofino: Portus Delphini (Porto Delfino). When Captain Crovari died on board of his clipper Macabeo, in the Uruguayan sea, Maria and her four daughters took the management of both the hotel and the restaurant and furnished it with the treasures that the Captain had brought back from his travels around the world.
