French, born in Austria, Marc Sadler has lived and worked as a designer in France, the United States, Asia and Italy. One among the first graduates in Esthétique Industrielle at ENSAD in Paris with a thesis on plastics, he has
been a pioneer in experimenting materials and contamination of technologies, which became a distinctive trait in his production. At the beginning of 1970s,he designed the first fully-recyclable thermoplastic ski boot, then produced by
the Italian company Cabre (which eventually became Lotto). Today, thanks to his eclecticism, he is advisor to companies in all industries. Over the years,he gained many international awards, including 4 ADI Compasso d’Oro. The
spine protector designed for Dainese is exposed at the permanent collection of MOMA in New York, while “Mite” lamp of Foscarini is part of the design collection at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
For who is your Masters designed, and why join?
To answer part of this question, I would suggest you to refer to Raffles Milano website to
have an all-round view of their full range of proposals. My Masters is a unique opportunity
to work with 10 professionals that I have carefully chosen to explain, teach and make
design comprehensible in all its nuances: from ideas to creative sketches, ending with
communication via social media and trade press.
Which professional opportunities is your Master offering?
It is a class thought to open the mind and make you ready to work with companies from
different industries, having peculiar needs, all linked to design nuances.
What is the recipe of success for a designer?
Knowing how to relate with small, medium and large enterprises, how to revaluate old
projects, update and recreate them, and then finally produce new ones, even in a period like
the one we’re living, in fluctuating economy.
During your travels, which city or country has most impressed you for its production and
creation of items or design projects?
Each country has its own particular flavour and style. Italy still amazes me every time; for
its production of objects and furnishings, for the quality of materials and for the tremendous
attention to detail. United States are a country of great inventors and innovators, either in
clothing as well as in technology and design where they generated new creative segments;
but at least in regard to furnishing, there is nothing more distinctive than the Italian
production.
What is Cool for Marc Sadler in the world of Design and in everyday life?
Knowing how to listen to people’s ideas and how to create working synergies, just like what
I offer in the Raffles Milano Master, where there is no separation between teachers and
students, where we create a great team ready to design, listen and produce.
