Mantua will once again become the capital city of the Renaissance thanks to
an exhibition dedicated to ideal cities and the lending of an exceptional work
of art: The Ideal City from the Royal Palace of Urbino (on display until 29
November). Due to be installed in San Giorgio castle, the exhibition aims to
open up a discussion on Mantegna’s Camera Picta and Laurana’s masterpiece:
two iconic works of art that will be admired in the same exhibition venue for the
very first time, bringing the heart of reflection on the Renaissance and the theme
of the ideal city to the home of the Gonzaga family. A subject that is tackled in
depth in the wide-ranging exhibition, which stretches from sixteenth century
treatises to the present day, with two in-depth pieces dedicated to the founding
cities of the House of Gonzaga: Sabbioneta in Italy and Charleville in France.
