The castle of Monticello, located just a few miles from Alba, one of the most relevant wine and food areas in Piedmont, as been owned and lived in by the Roero of Monticello family over five hundred years, since 1372. The castle is in fact one of the best preserved medieval buildings in the region. The Castle, dominated by the Ghibellin battlements round passageways at the top, raises three floors up. The Armours Room, which holds a collection of arms from various times, and the Saint Barbara Chapel can be found at the top of the stone staircase. The Picture Room is situated one floor up: the portraits of the Roero family are on display as well as the wives of the family’s first born coat-of-arms, on the ceiling vault.
